- How much does Human Verification cost?
10,000 Ethos XP. Of that, 1,000 XP is burned immediately and 9,000 XP is held in escrow to compensate the three Validators who verify you (3,000 XP each).
- Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
No. The 1,000 XP burn is non-refundable. If you don't complete the process, the remaining escrowed XP is held until you do. There is no refund mechanism for incomplete verifications.
- How long does it take?
It depends on Validator availability in your area. Requests never expire, so there's no rush. Some users may be verified quickly; others may take longer depending on geography.
- I have 1 or 2 verifications. Am I partially verified?
No. You need verifications from 3 unique Validators to achieve Human Verified status. With fewer than 3, your status remains unverified, though the Validators who did verify you have already been compensated.
- Does verification expire?
Yes. Human Verification bonds last 3 years, after which you'll need to renew.
- Does Human Verification prove I only have one account?
No. Human Verification confirms that a profile belongs to a real person, but it does not guarantee uniqueness. In principle, someone could get verified on multiple profiles. Ethos addresses uniqueness differently — through the Credibility Score, which requires sustained, genuine participation over time and is extremely difficult to replicate across multiple accounts.
- Do I need to share biometric data?
No. There are no iris scans, facial recognition, or biometric databases involved. A Validator simply needs to confirm you're a real person through a meeting, video call, or voice call.
- Can anyone verify me?
No. Only Ethos Validators — holders of one of the 256 Validator NFTs — who meet specific requirements can perform verifications. This may expand to other high-reputation users in the future.
