In Ethos, credibility scores can be broken down into 5 levels that are meant to be easy, objective ways to judge someone's credibility

Level

Score

Description

Untrusted

0-799

Indicates the user has had a significant amount of negative reviews or slashes against them.

Questionable

800-1199

Typically seen on accounts that have no history (which start at ~1000) or neutral accounts with history that have been negatively reviewed

Neutral

1200-1599

Where most accounts & wallets start, with some onchain or app (like Twitter) history

Reputable

1600-1999

Likely someone who has been vouched for, positively reviewed, and earned the respect of their peers.

Exemplary

2000-2800

The ultimate showing of trust, someone who has had to built up their reputation and social capital over a significant period of time.

The credibility scores are modeled loosely after ELO for chess, or other matchmaking based systems commonly used in video games.

The intent with that system is to be able to easily measure the impact of the difference of two users' interactions; if someone who is Untrusted reviews someone who's Exemplary, it will have little to no effect, similar to someone who is 2400 in Chess beating someone with an 800 rating.
