Check whether the person is human verified on Ethos. The badge on a profile means three already-verified members confirmed, in person or on a video or voice call, that this is a real individual, and each of them put their own credibility on the line to say so. No biometrics, no ID upload, no hardware.
How Ethos verification works
The person asking to be verified first signs a bond that puts 800 points of their credibility score at risk if the verification turns out to be fraudulent.
Three members who are already verified and have a score above 1600 then confirm them through an in-person meeting, a video call or a voice call.
Verified profiles get a badge and 100 points of score. A fraudulent verification can be reported and reversed. See How to Get Human Verified and How to Report a Fraudulent Human Verification.
How it differs from other approaches
Proof-of-personhood systems such as World ID, BrightID or Human Passport answer one question: is this a unique human? Ethos answers that question through people who vouch for each other with real stakes, and then keeps going: is this human credible, what have they done, who trusts them. A bot can sometimes pass a liveness check. It cannot get three established members to risk their reputation on it.
For a project fighting fake accounts
If you run an airdrop, a DAO or a community and want to keep sybil accounts out, the Ethos API returns a profile's score and human verification status for any wallet or X handle, with no authentication needed for reads. Gate on verification, or on a minimum score, or both. See How do I use the Ethos API?.
Common questions
Is verification private? Verification is visible on the profile. What was discussed on the call is not recorded.
Does verified mean trustworthy? It means real. Trustworthiness is the rest of the profile: score, reviews, vouches, slashes.
