Karma, explained

Season and total karma, how you earn it, streaks, tips and prizes

Karma Updated Oct 29, 2026 3 min read

Karma is how Ethos recognises contribution. You earn it by finishing your daily tasks, by making contributions other people find valuable, and by receiving tips. It replaced XP: nothing earns or spends XP any more, and the XP you had became your karma.

Two numbers

  • Season karma is what you have earned in the current season. It starts at zero when a season opens and decides the season’s prizes.
  • Total karma is everything you have ever earned, across seasons, including your converted XP.

Karma Season 1 runs from 2026-10-22 to 2027-01-22.

Who can earn

You earn karma, receive tips and get a tipping allowance once your credibility score is above 1300. Below that, you can still do your daily tasks and keep a streak, but no karma is paid.

Three ways to earn

Daily tasks. Complete every task in every one of the day’s bundles and the reward lands the moment you finish the last one. The base reward is 100 karma, multiplied by your credibility and by your streak, with a bonus if you hold a Validator NFT. Skipping a task means no reward for that day.

Daily prizes. At each daily reset, the three contributions other people judged most meaningful that day earn 500, 300 and 200 karma. Useful reviews, daily bounty answers and other valuable work qualify, ranked by credibility-weighted feedback.

Tips. Anyone eligible can tip a review, vouch, slash or post. Each tip gives the author 5 karma, up to 100 a day per tipper. Tips come from a daily allowance, so tipping never lowers your own karma. You cannot tip yourself, and both of you need a score above 1300.

Streaks

A day keeps your streak when you have answered at least one task in each bundle and left nothing pending. Skipping every task in a day ends the streak and earns no karma; “I’m not sure” and skipping a trust battle count as skips. Days follow UTC, so the day rolls over at 00:00 UTC.

Milestones come at 7, 14, 21 and 30 days, then every 30 days after that. A longer streak means a bigger multiplier on your daily reward.

If you miss a day, only the most recent missed day can be forgiven. Right now there is no self-service repair: the Ethos team decides. Paying for a forgiveness in WHUF is coming, but is not released yet. A broken streak never takes away karma you have already earned; only the multiplier on future rewards drops, and it rebuilds as your new streak grows.

What karma never does

  • Karma already earned is never removed, not by a broken streak and not by a slash.
  • A successful slash does make you ineligible for daily and season prizes.

Season prizes

Season prizes go to the top 1000 by season karma among people who are human verified and have never been successfully slashed. The Karma page in the app shows the prize pool, your rank, and how far you are from a winning place.

Where to see it

Open Karma from the menu in the app. It shows your season and total karma, your streak and multipliers, today’s tasks, and how much of your tipping allowance is left. “Your history” lists every karma entry, filterable by type, and you can download it as a CSV.
