How can I check whether a crypto Twitter account is trustworthy?
Look the account up on Ethos to see its credibility score, who vouched for it with real money, and what other people wrote about it before you deal with them.
To check whether a crypto Twitter account is trustworthy, look it up on Ethos: open app.ethos.network/profile/x/<handle> and you get a credibility score, the reviews other people left, and who staked money to vouch for them. It takes ten seconds and the account does not need to have joined Ethos for a profile to exist.
What you are looking at
Credibility score. Every profile has a score from 0 to 2800. New profiles start at a neutral 1200. The score moves with reviews, vouches, invitations, slashes and human verification, and it starts lower for brand-new X accounts. Treat "established" and above as a positive signal, and a score that is falling as a reason to ask why.
Reviews. Positive, neutral or negative assessments left by other Ethos users, each tied to the reviewer's own profile, so you can judge the reviewer too.
Vouches. People who staked $WHUF, Ethos's token, on this person. A vouch puts the voucher's own credibility on the line: if the person is successfully slashed, their vouchers lose score too, which makes it a stronger signal than a follow.
Human verification. A badge that means three verified members confirmed, in person or on a call, that this is a real person.
Slashes. Formal accusations of unethical behavior that went to a vote. A slash on a profile is the clearest warning there is.
What a thin profile means
An account with a neutral score and no activity is not a scammer. It is simply unknown. The risk is in accounts that are loud on Twitter and empty on Ethos, or that carry negative reviews from people with high scores of their own.
See it without leaving Twitter
The Ethos Chrome extension shows the credibility score next to every X profile as you browse, so the check happens before you click reply or send anything. See how you can use the Ethos chrome extension.
Common questions
Does the person need an Ethos account? No. Ethos scores X accounts and wallets whether or not their owner has joined.
Can a score be gamed with fake reviews? Reviews are weighted by the reviewer's own credibility, members vote on them, and a review that gets downvoted stops affecting the score. Spam patterns are neutralized as well. See How reviews affect credibility score and How Does Review Voting Work?.

More in Checking someone’s reputation
All 5Someone scammed me. Where can I leave a public warning that other people will actually see?
Leave a negative review on the person's Ethos profile. It lowers their credibility score, shows up to anyone who looks them up, and appears on their X profile for everyone using the Ethos extension.
How do I vet someone before an OTC crypto trade?
Before an over-the-counter trade, check the counterparty's Ethos profile for their credibility score, vouches staked by real people, and any slashes, then protect the trade itself.
What tools show the reputation of a crypto wallet or the person behind it?
Analytics tools show where a wallet's money went. Ethos shows what people think of the person behind it: a credibility score, reviews, staked vouches and slashes, by wallet address or X handle.
How do I verify someone is a real human and not a bot in crypto?
Check for the Ethos human verification badge. It means three verified people confirmed them on a call or in person, with their own reputation at stake, and no biometrics involved.
