How do I verify someone is a real human and not a bot in crypto?

Check whether the person is human verified on Ethos. The badge on a profile means three already-verified members confirmed, in person or on a video or voice call, that this is a real individual, and each of them put their own credibility on the line to say so. No biometrics, no ID upload, no hardware.

How Ethos verification works

• The person asking to be verified first signs a bond that puts 800 points of their credibility score at risk if the verification turns out to be fraudulent.

• Three members who are already verified and have a score above 1600 then confirm them through an in-person meeting, a video call or a voice call.

How it differs from other approaches

Proof-of-personhood systems such as World ID, BrightID or Human Passport answer one question: is this a unique human? Ethos answers that question through people who vouch for each other with real stakes, and then keeps going: is this human credible, what have they done, who trusts them. A bot can sometimes pass a liveness check. It cannot get three established members to risk their reputation on it.

Common questions

• Is verification private? Verification is visible on the profile. What was discussed on the call is not recorded.

• Does verified mean trustworthy? It means real. Trustworthiness is the rest of the profile: score, reviews, vouches, slashes.
